GCC Goan Wing Cup football today

MUSCAT: The one-day 8-a-side football tournament organised by ISC — Goan wing, is all set to kick-off at the Al Ghubrah Power and Desalination Ground on Friday from 8 am onwards.


Sixteen teams are taking part in the annual football tournament. And for the first time this year, eight teams from the GCC countries (UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar) along with


8 teams from Oman are vying for the honours.


The draw for the tournament was held over the weekend, on November 3 at Majan Continental Hotel. The teams are drawn into four groups.


Group A: Vaxhim Divar- Dubai, Don Bosco Oratory Goa- Kuwait, FC Aldona-Qatar, Salcette United- Bahrain


Group B: Doha Airport United Maina Curtorim- Qatar, Lourdes Boys Sant Inez, Castle Boys Mapusa- Dubai, Sangolda FC- Dubai


Group C: Curtorim Club Muscat, Calangute Beach Boys, Parish Youth Nuvem, Anjuna AIG


Group D: Saligao FC, Sao Miguel - Taleigao, Chinchinim Amigos, Aldona FC


The draw for the tournament is planned in a way, that there will be one home team and any one Gulf team competing against each other in the finale.


Allan D’costa (founder president of GCO) was the chief guest and Antonio Goes (adviser and founder convenor-ISC Goan wing) was the special guest for the draw. Allan Dcosta unveiled the winning trophy and wished all the teams and the organising committee ‘best of luck’.


Anthony Lourenco (convenor-Goan wing) welcomed the audience and thanked all the teams for their enthusiasm and support. He expressed his joy on the development of the ISC- Goan wing and the participation received from the Goans in Oman. Although there have been many challenges, the goal of going international has finally been successful.


Ryan Fernandes- joint sports coordinator, briefly covered a few important points of the tournament.


Islinda Nunes (co-convenor-Goan Wing) proposed the vote of thanks.


This is a family oriented recreational football festival. Apart from the main 8-a-side tournament there will be ladies’ tie-breaker, ladies tug of war, games for children, spot prizes and lots of music and fun.
