MUSCAT, SEP 30 - Two-years long celebrations to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, father of India, will begin on October 2. The events, organised by the Embassy of India in association with Raja Yoga Centre for Self Development, will be inaugurated by Shaikh Mohammed bin Said al Kalbani, Minister of Social Development.  The events will include release of Indian postal stamps in commemoration of the occasion and screening of a special video on messages from the life of Mahatma Gandhi. Acclaimed Omani singer Haitham Mohammed Rafi will sing Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye Je, the favourite devotional song of Mahatma Gandhi. “Mahatma Gandhi’s unique principles, non-violence, and communal harmony and brotherhood hold great relevance to the modern society and we will be celebrating the 150th birth anniversary in a befitting manner,” Munu Mahawer, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate, told the Observer.
