Julia Child, the English chef, said of the French gastronome, “In France, cooking is a serious art form and a national sport.” In line with that philosophy, the French Embassy in Muscat has announced a week of exciting, uniquely French initiatives to celebrate French Week in the capital, from the 14th to the 21st of March, highlighted by a number of culinary and gastronomic promotions, hosted by the Embassy, and a number of partners within the hospitality sector.

This, the inaugural ‘French Week in Oman,’ will commence with a cocktail event for 400 specially invited guests, aimed at showcasing the typically, and uniquely French, ‘gastronomie francaise,’ a tradition of French cuisine which has evolved across centuries of tumultuous social and political change, each bringing its own new culinary and gastronomic traditions, now embraced globally as the basis of fine food.

During the following week, a number of venues around the city will host luncheon events, and dinners following the theme of Gallic cuisine, as quality French food products, and high quality food and hospitality training programs currently in place within the Sultanate are highlighted. A number of associated partner promotions will also take place during the seven days, discounting a number of products and services.

The week will conclude with Oman’s participation in the worldwide ‘Gout de France’ or Good France Day, as the coming of Spring is heralded by thousands of chefs on every continent, to celebrate French gastronomy. At each event will be paid to the quality and extreme excellence of the French cuisine, celebrating its innovation and values, chief among which are the pleasure of the shared dining experience, respect for our health, each other, and our environment.

Renowned writer and critic Art Buchwald wrote that the French celebrate good food the way in which no others do, saying, “Dinner is not what you do in the evening before you go out. Dinner is the evening.” So, save the date on your calendar, and follow the activities on a dedicated Facebook page, “Oman French Week,” and on Instagram at #omanfrenchweek.
