Muscat: The Ministry of Sports Affairs (MOSA) said it will buy all shares allocated to the Oman Football Association (OFA) for the match against Iran in the pre-quarterfinals (round of 16).
This will constitute about eight per cent 0r 6,000 of the total seats available at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Distribution of tickets will be through the Oman Football Association, a statement said.
Oman advanced to the knockout stage of the AFC Asian Cup for the first time after defeating Turkmenistan 3-1 in a Group F match at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.
Oman’s reward for sealing a spot in the UAE 2019 knockout stage for the first time in four appearances at the Finals is a meeting with Group D winners Islamic Republic of Iran on Sunday at the same venue.
Take nothing away from Oman for they, head coach Pim Verbeek says, fully deserve their spot in the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 Round of 16.
“We had a good 2018 and we expected to do well in the AFC Asian Cup. We were unlucky to lose to Uzbekistan as we conceded a late goal while we held our own against Japan, who are a very, very good side.”
