The First Leadership and Decision Making Forum has set the pace for the direction the health sector will take to achieve 36 competencies at all levels of professions linked to health care services, leading to the Health Vision 2050. The forum, organised by the Ministry of Health (MoH), was inaugurated on Tuesday under the auspices of HH Sayyid Haitham bin Tareq al Said, Minister of Heritage and Culture. Netaj is a brand developed for the project on leadership and decision making, achieved after research from experts who came up with four principles: team work, direction, diversity and leadership.

One of the results expected from Netaj is a multi-professional collaboration framework. An ‘Award for Excellence in Quality of Researches’ was presented to the MoH by the European Organisation of Quality Research this week, an indication of the number of researches and their quality.

Speaking to Observer after the opening ceremony and after inaugurating the exhibition, HH Sayyid Haitham said, “I think it (Netaj) should be adopted by all institutions in the government, not just the Ministry of Health. I think the outcome would be benefit everybody.”

The Netaj project was started four years ago because leadership is one of the most important elements in any administration.

“Any organisation’s success or failure primarily depend a great deal on leadership.

“The way we make decisions are extremely important and hence mastering these two elements will enable organisations like the Ministry of Health to achieve its objectives in a much more relaxed manner,” said Dr Darwish Saif al Maharbi, Undersecretary for Administrative and Financial Affairs, MoH.

A protocol has been established to implement the process and a training manual devised, which will be introduced in the training institutes. “Maintaining budget, standards and right utilization of resources need leadership qualities.

We want to prepare the right environment so that people find it easier to find effective outcomes,” said Dr Majid Rashid al Maqbali, Director-General of Nursing Affairs, MoH.
