MUSCAT: The Information Technology Authority (ITA), in cooperation with Microsoft-Oman, on Wednesday organised at the Cultural Centre, Sultan Qaboos University, the 4.0 Digital Trends Forum under the theme of “the role of 4.0 IR technologies in government transformation” in the presence of Dr Salim bin Sultan al ruzaiqi, CEO of ITA, and IT professionals in the Sultanate and those interested in the ICT sector.

This forum is part of the efforts exerted by ITA to implement e.oman strategy to transform Oman into a knowledge society and to spread the culture of digital awareness in the community, targeting public and private sector entities, academics, decision-makers and IT professionals through a number of papers delivered by international speakers.

The forum, in its second edition, aims at sharing information and updates about the latest trends in ICT as well as creating a common networking platform for professionals and people interested in ICT. It also seeks to support Omani IT enthusiasts and specialists to get introduced to the future technologies.

“The fourth industrial revolution is upon us and technologies such as Artificial Intelligence will form its backbone” said Omar bin Salim al shanfari, Deputy CEO of ITA for Operations. “Whether used in the form of chatbots to answer the needs of citizens; predicting traffic congestions and preventing car accidents; identifying spreading diseases or predicting weather hazards; anticipating cyberattacks and protecting digital estates; or analysing large amounts of data and using it to address needs of various government departments — we believe AI will play a pivotal role in good governance overall.

“The World Economic Forum’s Future of Government Report indicates that it is necessary for governments to redesign their structures and processes to be efficient and effective in today’s complex, interlinked and fast-changing environments,” said Shaikh Saif Hilal al Hosni, General Manager, Microsoft Bahrain and Oman.”

In line with His Majesty’s vision, we see that the Sultanate of Oman already on the road to harness the power of technology and bring it at the heart of this transformation to drive economic growth and better serve its citizens. It gives us great pleasure to participate in this forum and demonstrate how the 4IR technologies such as AI, can empower Oman’s government entities to achieve more.”

Microsoft Partners also participated in the forum to demonstrate their AI-based solutions built on the Microsoft intelligent Cloud to drive productivity, increase mobility, and innovate new digital services for citizens. Xebia showcased its OCR solution that extracts Arabic text from files and images, and translates them into English.

Brainware demonstrated Pulses; its artificial intelligence platform that provides government decision-makers with multiple business-critical dashboards, detailing the satisfaction and happiness of citizens, and providing in-depth reports about the quality of services provided by employees.

Linkdev showcased the ‘Investment Map’ an interactive platform for investors to search for opportunities by geography, industry and gain insights in the form of reports as well as illustrations. Linkdev also demonstrated the ‘Smart Legal Investor Counsellor’, an AI powered chatbot that engages with investor to understand their business needs, show relevant opportunities and advise on next steps to start a business.
