Food security, global ranking debated

MUSCAT: The Board of the Public Authority for Stores and Food Reserve (PASFR) held its fifth meeting for 2018 on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Dr Fuad bin Jaafar al Sajwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, PASFR Board Chairman. The PASFR Board discussed a number of issues related to food security including the Sultanate’s ranking at the global food security index for this year, the quarterly report on the international prices for foodstuffs and global reserves, besides the executive position for the study made to turn the Sultanate into a hub for food storing. The PASFR Board proposed to set up a fund for agricultural risks. The meeting also discussed the minutes of the meetings of the internal tender committee and took appropriate decisions. The board reviewed the implementation of its earlier decisions and discussed, most notably, the report of the 4th quarter of 2018. It also reviewed developments regarding the implementation of quality management system (ISO). — ONA
