MUSCAT: A team of paediatric surgeons of the Royal Hospital (RH) has successfully removed a foetus from a four-month old baby, the Ministry of Health said on Sunday. The four-month old baby was diagnosed with a large tumour in the abdominal area. A statement from Royal Hospital, read, “The surgery was performed by the Paediatric Surgery Department at Royal Hospital, and they were able to treat a rare condition called “foetus in foetu.” This is rare because it occurs in exceptional circumstances.” The surgery was led by Dr Mohammed Bin Jaafar Al Sajwani, Senior Consultant and Head of Paediatric Surgery, and Dr Mohamed al Metwally, Paediatric Surgeon. It took the surgical team three hours to successfully remove the foetus. The baby was discharged from the hospital after three days.
