WHY IS RAMADHAN IMPORTANT FOR YOU?

Ramadhan is the most precious month in the Islamic calendar and it is obligatory for Muslims to fast. The month is given great importance by all Muslims in different parts of the world and they welcome and observe this month will all reverence, prestige and dedication it deserves. The mosques are filled with people; the recitation of Quran takes place. Spiritual rewards for fasting are believed to multiply within the month of Ramadhan and an increase in doing good deeds and charity can be seen prominently.

How do you (and your family) celebrate Ramadhan?

As a non-Muslim I do not fast. However, as courtesy, I join my friends or colleagues who invite me for Iftar to celebrate with them. My wife is a great cook and she makes delicious samosas and bhajis to share with friends.

DO YOU HAVE ANY FOND MEMORY OF RAMADHAN GROWING UP?

Ramadhan brings back lots of good memories especially the wonderful time spent in Oman. I love the Arabian traditions which relate with Ramadhan – the tents, the colourful lamps in hotels and restaurants making the place more exquisite and beautiful.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT IFTAR?

It is very exciting to see the variety of food spread across to be served for Iftar. I’m usually with friends or family when I get the opportunity to join Iftar.

Do you help the poor during RamadHan and how?

Ramadhan requires a lot of dedication especially for anyone fasting. The fasting reminds people of how it feels like to have little in life. It also allows them to give back and to appreciate your blessings. As much as possible I give charity not only during Ramadhan but throughout the year.
