First day of Ramadhan begins on May 17

MUSCAT: The Moon Sighting Committee of the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs announced that the holy month of Ramadhan moon was sighted via astronomical calculations, therefore May 17 (Thursday) will be the first day of the holy month. The committee issued the following statement: “Ramadhan is the (month) in which was sent down the Quran, as a guide to mankind, also clear (signs) for guidance and judgement (between right and wrong). So everyone of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting, but if anyone is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period (should be made up) by days later. Thanks to Allah and Peace Be Upon His Prophet (PBUH) Muhammad.” On this blessed occasion, the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs extends congratulations to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, praying to the Almighty Allah for the return of this occasion on His Majesty for many years to come. The ministry also congratulated Omani people and the Muslim nation on this blessed occasion. — ONA
