First day of Dhul Hijjah on Saturday, Eid likely on August 12

MUSCAT: The Moon Sighting Committee met on Thursday at the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs to determine the first day of Dhul Hijjah 1440 AH.


The Moon Sighting Committee, assigned by the Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs said on Thursday that they failed to sight the moon.


The main moon-sighting committee didn’t report the sighting of the moon on Thursday.


Accordingly, the first day of Dhul Hijjah month will be tomorrow, Saturday.


According to officials, the first day of Eid will be ten days from the first day of the month. Arafat Day will be the ninth day of Dhul Hijjah month.


Eid al Adha in Oman is likely to be celebrated on Monday, August 12, with Arafa on Sunday (August 11th).


The committee was chaired by Shaikh Abdullah bin Mohammed al Salmy, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs. Members of the committee include His Eminence Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad al Khalili, Grand Mufti of the Sultanate, Sayyid Harib bin Hamad bin Saud, Under-secretary of the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, Eng Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidi, Under-secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Shaikh Dr Abdullah bin Rashid al Siyabi, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court and Shaikh Ahmed al Khatib, Chairman of the Reconciliation Committee in Salalah.


It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs calls upon citizens and residents to explore the vision of the moon, in cooperation with field teams in the wilayats or contact the sub-committees of the walis’ offices.
