Firms covered by social insurance system rise

MUSCAT: The latest statistics issued by the Public Authority for Social Insurance (PASI) by the end of December 2017 indicated an increase in the number of active establishments covered by the social insurance system to 16,672 establishments due to increase in youth orientation to open private projects. This was reflected in the increase in the number of active insurers working in the private sector in the Sultanate, reaching 222,186 insured personnel, with a total of 62,345 registered cases.


The majority of active insurers were concentrated in the age group (26-30) years old, with 22.8 per cent of the total active insurers. The average wage for the total active insurers was RO 677. Regarding end of service in the private sector inside the Sultanate, which includes termination of service, resignation, transfer to another employer, termination of service due to death or disability, and termination of employment for other reasons, they stood at 58,160 cases by the end of last December 2017.


The number of active insurers in the system of Extension of Security Protection to the GCC Citizens reached 1,830 insurers. The number of active insurers in the insurance system for Omanis working abroad and their equivalents by the end of December 2017 amounted to 58,160 cases.


The number of active insurers in the Omani self-employed insurance system and their equivalents amounted to 9,810 until the end of December 2017. As for the beneficiaries of the insurance benefits, the number of cumulative pension cases issued to those entitled to all insurance systems reached at the end of last December 15,363 cases. The incidence of old-age pensions amounted to 41.9 per cent of the total number of pension cases followed by the cases of non-occupational death allowances, with 32.1 per cent, followed by cases of disability pensions resulting from an occupational cause amounted to 19.3 per cent while those for occupational disability pensions and occupational death pensions constituted 2.8 per cent and 3.9 per cent respectively of total pension disbursements.


The number of cases of insurance benefits due to work injuries by the end of last December 2017 stood at 495 of which 31.1 per cent accidents. — ONA
