Film forum reviews Omani, Arab, cinema experiences

MUSCAT: The second film Forum dedicated to ‘Children’s Cinema’ started at the Cultural Club in the Governorate of Muscat last night and lasts for four days. The forum includes a review of the most important Omani, Arab and international film experiences, which dealt with the topics that contributed to supporting childhood cinema and its themes and aspects related to the child’s awareness. A group of film critics and directors from inside and outside the Sultanate will take part in the event. Tunisian director Anis al Aswad will present today a series of his short films specialised in childhood, which will conclude with a dialogue with him moderated by the director Abdullah al Battashi.


The festival will present today a film by Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, and on the last day a series of short Omani films will be screened. In addition to a cinematic testimony by film director Muzneh al Musafir, entitled ‘Cinema is an Innovative Life Experience’. Director Humaid al Amri will also make a presentation entitled ‘Snapshots from the Omani Film Scene’. The forum honours the late artist Salim Bahwan in recognition of his outstanding role in the Omani and Arab cinema. This will have highlighted in a number of activities that shed light on the role. Artist Ahmed al Azki will deliver a speech on the occasion. — ONA
