MUSCAT, JAN13 - While the next five days are going to be warmer than what it has been so far, the weekend is expected to see a cold wave.
“There is a good chance of a cold wave on Friday and Saturday,” the Met Office said.
According to the weather officials, the expected cold wave could bring down the temperature by four to five degrees Celsius in interior areas and two to three degrees in the coastal areas.
Temperature at Jabal Shams could touch the zero degree and reach freezing point over the weekend.
During the cold wave, dust storms could be expected. Oman Sea will be moderate to rough.
Ahmed al Mahrooqi from Adam explains why it has not been so cold this month. “Elders in the community describe the pattern as ‘7/7’ or Musaba’at, which means one week of cool weather and one week of warm weather for at least a month. Then, there is a change in the weather.”
