Munich: Former Germany goalkeeper Tim Wiese is taking a break from his new career in wrestling, returning between the posts for an eighth-division team on Saturday.

Wiese, 35, said he plans to wear the trademark pink shirt again from his days at Werder Bremen when he features for SSV Dillingen — four years after his last match for Hoffenheim.

“I haven’t forgotten anything,” he told Sky TV after a first training session for the game in Bavaria against TSV Haunsheim.

Wiese has gained some 30 kilos since the end of his football career, made his wrestling debut in November and hopes to continue as a wrestler.

Wiese is playing in the game on Saturday as a personal favour for a friend, Christoph Nowak, who presides over the Dillingen club.Wiese’s appearance has generated plenty of interest, and the Bavarian football federation plans to broadcast the game live via its Facebook page. — dpa
