European Parliament panel chief hails Oman’s role in peace efforts

MUSCAT: Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council, on Wednesday received David McAllister, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, currently visiting the country. Dr Mantheri stressed that the Sultanate attaches great importance to the strengthening of its relations with the countries of the European Union, pointing out the cooperation between the Sultanate and the European Union which is in accordance with the Sultanate’s policy to foster peace and values of tolerance and harmony in the world.


Dr Mantheri said that since the beginning of the Blessed Renaissance under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the Sultanate has achieved comprehensive renaissance focusing on human development, and is working to achieve the desired development goals that meet the ambitions and keep pace with the aspirations. In the interest of promoting and sustaining development, the Sultanate has adopted ambitious plans for economic diversification and approved promising sectors for this. In this regard he elaborated that the vision of “Oman 2040’’ aims to optimise the benefits and qualities enjoyed by Oman, the chairman of the State Council added.


He highlighted the keenness of the Sultanate in establishing cordial relations regionally and added that the Sultanate spares no effort in supporting regional and international peace and security. Capitalising on its strategic location, infrastructure and talent, Oman is today welcoming foreign investment as it hosts modern facilities, he said. Dr Mantheri gave an overview of the Council of Oman and its role in national action within the framework of the State institutions and laws, noting the roles played by parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening relations between States.


Regional and international topics and issues of common interest were reviewed during the meeting. David McAllister expressed his pleasure over the Sultanate visit and pointed out its leadership role in supporting the stability of the region and strengthening international peace and security. He also stressed the European Union’s keenness to support the Sultanate’s efforts.
