Muscat, Nov 12 - The Muscat Municipality has begun to install 84 energy-saving lighting poles (1,800 metres long) as part of decorations for the National Day celebrations. Poles have been installed on roads facing the Qurum beach. The municipality had earlier said it will embark on a project to replace the existing incandescent lamps with LED lights in the capital. The project, which will begin in the first quarter of 2018, is aimed at rationalising electricity consumption, conserving energy and realising goals of sustainable development. LED lights will help save 60 per cent of energy through the use of smart lighting technology, contribute to reducing carbon emissions and reduce operation/ maintenance costs.
