Electricity output rises 5.7 per cent

The Sultanate’s gross electricity production rose 5.7 per cent to 6,552.5 gigawatt (GW) by the end of the first quarter 2017, compared with 6199.7 GW while the net production went up 6.8 per cent to 6,308.5 GW, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). The gross production in Muscat saw a fall of 53 per cent to 511.7 GW while Dhofar production rose 4 per cent to 731.7 GW. In Musandam’s electricity production went up 2.6 per cent to 53.2 GW, while in Al Dakhiliyah output declined 38.8 per cent to 141.1 GW when compared with March 2016.


The South and North Al Batinah, and Al Dhahirah stepped up their production by 7.1 per cent to 3697.4 GW while Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta logged a rise in electricity production at 123 per cent and 11.8 per cent to touch 1335.2 GW and 82.2 GW respectively, compared to the end of March 2016.
