Muscat, Jan 7 -
Oman is preparing to host the second edition of the eMobility Forum — a global event that promises to impart new impetus to the government’s ambitions to prepare the Sultanate for a smart, electric, connected and autonomous low-carbon mobility future.
E-Mobility Forum Oman 2019, set to take place at Sundus Rotana Muscat on January 20, seeks to build on the success of the inaugural edition held around a year ago.
That event provided the Sultanate with an exciting peek into the promising world of Electric Vehicles, renewables-based charging infrastructure and stations, smart and sustainable cities, and the opportunity to kickstart the growth of a carbon-free transportation industry in Oman.
The upcoming event has been organised by Global EVRT, a UK-based organisation that seeks to accelerate electric vehicle adoption for the creation of smart and sustainable societies.
The forum is also backed by, among others, the Public Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Riyada), Enel Foundation (the non-profit research organisation of global power company Enel), YallaMotor (an automobile portal for the Middle East) and CleanTechnica (a leading US news site focusing on clean technologies and renewables).
Significantly, the Authority for Electricity Regulation Oman (AER), which is formulating the regulatory framework for the adoption of Electric Vehicles (EV) and related technologies in the Sultanate, is set to have a high-profile presence at the forum.
The Authority’s Executive Director, Qais al Zakwani, will deliver a keynote address on the ‘Future of eMobility in Oman’.
The presentation will discuss, among other things, the findings of a key report published by the Authority last month on international best practices for electrical vehicles and recommendations as Oman prepares for electric vehicle penetration.
The report was compiled by the San Francisco-based consultancy firm, Energy and Environmental Economics, Inc (E3) who, along with its subcontractor, London-headquartered Baringa Partners, were commissioned by the Authority to study the groundwork necessary for the full-scale adoption of plug-in light-duty electric vehicles (PEV) in the Sultanate.
