Located some 300 kilometres (186 miles) south west of Cairo, the town of el-Bawity, Bahariya Oasis, located in the Giza Governorate, depends on agriculture, iron-ore mining and tourism for its econonomic growth.

Its main agricultural products are guavas, mangos, dates and olives.

But ’the town is generating new interest among historians and archaeology enthusiasts due to the towns’s archaeological treasures.

Referred by some as the Valley of the Golden Mummies, its treasures include the mummy of a woman dating back to the Greco-Roman period (top photo) and the tomb of Bannentiu, a powerful business man and son of Djed Amun-ef-ankh.
