CAIRO: Egypt’s former top auditor, Hisham Geneina, was attacked outside his house near Cairo on Saturday, a friend said. Geneina was injured in the eye, foot and other parts of the body in the attack in the area of New Cairo, university professor Hazem Hosny told reporters. “The attack was fierce and aimed at his assassination,” Hosny said. A security source said however that Geneina hit a young man while driving his car in New Cairo and quarrelled with the youth’s friends afterwards. “Geneina and the young man were injured and both were taken to a police station for investigations,” the source said. Both Geneina and Hazem Hosny were supporters of Sami Annan, an ex-chief of the military staff who was banned from standing in the country’s presidential elections.
