MUSCAT: The UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed commended the efforts being exerted by the Sultanate led by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, hailing the personal role of His Majesty to end the war in Yemen and arrive at a comprehensive peaceful settlement to the conflict. In a special interview with Oman News Agency (ONA), the outgoing UN envoy to Yemen said: “During my work as a UN envoy for three years, I recognised the significant and moderate role of the Sultanate in the region.” He valued the Sultanate’s diplomacy.

“The Sultanate has maintained its credibility with everyone,” he said, adding that during his meetings he realised the quiet and stable attitude of the Sultanate which reflects the visions and directives of His Majesty who views such issues with the utmost seriousness being issues of the Arab world which should be solved, expressing the Sultanate’s role as ‘positive and impartial’. The Sultanate has offered all facilitations and assistance to the people of Yemen during the crisis by hosting Yemeni injured and patients and providing them with medical care in the Sultanate’s hospitals. The Sultanate also opened its doors for the provision of humanitarian aid for Yemenis, he said. — ONA
