Duo successfully concludes 160-km ‘National Day walk’ in Nizwa

By Amal Al Riyami — NIZWA: Dec 11: Hilmi bin Hilal al Kindi and Nawaf bin Salim al Sulaimani concluded their 160-km walk in Nizwa on Saturday.


The duo had embarked on the arduous walk from Seeb in Muscat Governorate last week Monday as part of the 46th National Day celebrations.


A reception ceremony was organised in front of Nizwa Fort for the two, whose walk was backed by Al Awael Private School. Shaikh Hamad bin Salim bin Saif al Aghbari, Wali of Nizwa, welcomed them.


Abdullah bin Said al Saifi, a member of the Shura Council, and Ahmed bin Said al Hadrami, a member of the Shura Council representing Nizwa, and Abdullah bin Mohammed al Batrani and Salim Khamis al Shariqi, both from Sports Affairs Department in Al Dakhiliyah, were present on the occasion.


Nizwa Bikers team participated in the reception.


While congratulating them, Shaikh Wali of Nizwa said the trip is an “inspiration for all people of this beloved country to express their love, loyalty and gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos for the glorious National Day”.


Hilmi bin Hilal al Kindi said the duo would cover 30-40 km each day.


On the first day, they walked from Seeb to Fanja, second day, Fanja to Sumail and third day, Sumail to Izki. Nizwa was the last destination.


On the challenges they faced, he said: “We encountered no problems during the journey. I dedicate the success of this trip to the builder of the renaissance of Oman His Majesty Sultan Qaboos and pray to Allah to bless


His Majesty good health, happi-


ness and a long life with permanence of security and stability to Oman.”


Talking about his “first experience on foot”, Nawaf al Sulaimani said: “We were like a team and we used to motivate each other. We did not encounter any difficulties.”
