Distribution of pornographic materials punishable

By Staff Reporter — MUSCAT: Feb 20 - Publishing, distribution of pornographic materials online is punishable by crime in Oman leading to one year jail and a fine of RO 1,000, the Public Prosecution said. Under the Oman Cyber Law, the penalty with imprisonment for a period not less than one month and not exceeding one year and a fine not less than RO 100 and not exceeding RO 1, 000 or by either penalty, shall be applied to any person who uses the IT facilities to produce or procure or distribute or make available or transmit or sale or purchase or import pornography materials. The punishment shall be for a period not less than one year and not exceeding three years and a fine not less than RO 1,000 and not exceeding RO 5,000 if the subject matter of the pornography programme is a juvenile of less than 18 years of age.
