SALALAH, Jan 17 - Dhofar University has got initial approval from the Education Council to set up a medical school for which a bidding advertisement is likely to be announced soon. The initial approval has been granted based on a feasibility study done by Dhofar University and sent to the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE). Based on the university’s abilities to fulfill the requirements set by the Ministry of Higher Education and Ministry of Health, the university would open the medical college, which would be a great value addition for the governorate.

If it happens, this would be the second medical college in the Sultanate after Oman Medical College.

Dr Hassan Kashoob, Vice-Chancellor Dhofar University, mentioned about this at a recently held meeting at Dhofar University in which he announced introduction of many new programmes including Law College, Master courses in Social Sciences in Arabic; Master in Chemical Engineering; Master in Electrical and Computer Engineering; Master in General Curriculum and Instruction and Bachelor in Arabic Language and its Culture for non-Arabic speakers.

It also has plans to introduce Bachelor course in Logistics. “The Education Council has approved the proposal of establishing Law College at Dhofar University. Based on this we are working on the necessary preparation to open the college as soon as possible,” Dr Kashoob said in his comments to the Observer. He also said that the university was currently finalising PhD in Business Administration course proposal, which is to be sent to MoHE for final approval.
