Dhofar stay top with win

MUSCAT, Sept 24 - Straight after advancing to the last 16 of HM Cup, 10-time Omantel League (OL) champions Dhofar posted another fine win against Sur to lead the points table with 15 points in the Round 5 of OL late on Sunday. At the Sur Sports Complex, the home team Sur conceded in the 20th minute when Odai Khader struck for Dhofar. The hosts regrouped quickly and Saud al Farsi netted the equaliser two minutes later. The score remained 1-1 at half-time and most part of the second half until Odai Khader hit the winner in the injury time (94th minute) to give a 2-1 win for the visitors Dhofar. Sur are on bottom of the table at 12th spot with only two points.


After five matches, Muscat stayed second on the table with 10 points after a 1-1 draw against Al Suwaiq. At the Sohar Sports Complex, both the goals were scored by Muscat as they put Al Suwaiq in lead with an own goal by Mottassim in the 33rd minute. However, Abdul Khader Fall found the equaliser in the 64th minute to save a point for Muscat. Earlier at Sohar Sports Complex, Mirbat thrashed Majees 3-1 to close in on second spot with nine points. The score remained 1-1 at half-time and Mirbat score twice in the second half to seal the game.


For Mirbat, Musallam Akak (2 goals) and Sola Matafo were on target. Chris Deimi hit the lone goal for Majees. At Seeb Stadium, Samih al Hasani hit the lone goal of the match as Al Shabab edged Al Oruba 1-0. Al Hasani netted in the 34th minute as Al Shabab earned valuable three points after their disappointing start to the OL. Al Shabab are ninth with six points, while Oruba are seventh with seven points on the points table.
