Dhofar atop Omantel League after beating Mirbat

MUSCAT, August 27 - Nine times Omantel League champions Dhofar scored a crucial 2-0 win over Mirbat at the Salalah Sports Complex on Sunday in the second round of Omantel league. Oudai Khdra and Mohammed al Musalami netted for Dhofar. With this victory, Dhofar have topped the league table with six points while Mirbat remained at three points in the sixth place. The new entrants to Omantel League Al Rustaq scored their first victory in a 1-0 triumph against Al Oruba. Arman netted the winning goal in the 66th minute. With this victory, Al Rustaq bagged their first three points in the league while Al Oruba stuck to their existing points.


The former runner up of the league, Al Shabab, registered a 2-0 victory against Majees at the second round of the Omantel league. Al Shabab claimed their first three points while Majees remained with one point only as they were held to a stalemate with Sohar in the previous round. Sur is back from Salalah with an essential draw as they were held to a 3-3 draw against the Super Cup champions, Al Nasr, at Salalah Sports Complex. At half-time, the teams were tied at 2-2 while both teams added another goal in the second half to finish the match with 3-3. Omar al Malki and Shika Souri (2) netted Al Nasr’s goals while Ahmed al Siyabi, Khalid al Alawi and Samba Tonkara scored for Sur team.


Sohar ended the Northern Batinah derby recording a 3-0 victory against Saham. Sohar reached their forth point while Saham positioned at the bottom of league table without points. Abdul Azim al Ajmi, Said Obaid and Imanouel netted for Sohar. In the national capital derby, Muscat registered a 1-0 victory over Oman club at Seeb Stadium on Monday. Murtala Al Hassan netted the winning goal. The defending champions, Al Suwaiq, and Al Nahda played out a 1-1 draw at the Buraimi Sports Complex. Mohammed al Hosni scored for Al Nahdha while Mohammed al Ghassani equalised for Al Suwaiq.


The third round of Omatel league will take place on August 30 and 31. Oman club will travel to Salalah to face off against Dhofar at Al Saada Sports Stadium while Al Nasr will take on Al Suwaiq at same venue. Sohar and Mirbat will play at Sohar Sports complex and Al Nahdha will play against Al Shabab at Al Buraimi Sports Complex. On August 31, Muscat will face off against Al Rustaq at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex while Saham will take on Majees in Suhar sports Complex. Sur and Al Oruba will clash in the southern Al Sharqiyah derby at Sur Sports Complex.
