Muscat: The Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs has said that, in line with precautionary measures, it will take a suitable decision on the opening of mosques and areas of worship with effect from mid-November 2020, depending on local indicators to be issued by the Supreme Committee tasked with tackling developments resulting from Coronavirus (Covied-19) pandemic.

The decision will also bear on infection peak reports to be issued by the Supreme Committee, the ministry added.

In its statement on Monday, the ministry reaffirmed its extreme keenness to resume the opening of mosques and worship areas shut down due to Covid-19.

It pointed out that the Supreme Committee, which convened on September 22,  2020, expressed its deep anxiety about Covid-19 developments and instances of disease comeback in the local and international arenas, leading to a surge in infection cases and associated mortality cases.

The ministry explained that, due to the prevalence of impacts of the pandemic on public health, Sharia wisdom requires that precautionary measures have to be taken to protect life, thanks to the Sharia’s ample space for judgment on performing prayers (without compromising health or life).

At the conclusion of its statement, the ministry prayed to the Almighty Allah to protect Oman and the rest of the world from the pandemic and to grant the patients quick recovery. --ONA
