Cultural evening held in Salalah

SALALAH: A cultural evening entitled ‘Women in Culture and Thought’ was held on Thursday at Ubar theatre in Salalah, Governorate of Dhofar. The evening was organized by the Omani Society for Writers and Literati in collaboration with the Directorate General of Heritage and Culture in the governorate and Majalis al Athir Foundation for Conferences and Symposia. A number of Omani academics, writers and poets participated in the event.


Abdullah bin Aqeel al Ibrahim, Acting Deputy Governor of Dhofar, sponsored the evening in the presence of several members of Majlis Ash’shura and persons interested in literature and culture.


The event included interactive literary sessions carried several topics, including the status of women in the culture, thought, and the role of women in society, as well as providing experiences in culture communication.


A number of women writers and poets read samples of their works.


Naima bint Musalim al Mahariya overseeing the cultural evening said that this evening comes within the framework of motivating and encouraging women to get involved in the field of literature, the exchange of experiences and give the necessary literary skills in writing and poetry, in addition to honing and highlighting talents in this regard which contributes to highlighting the cultural identity of the community.


She added that Omani women have cultural and literary thought and are still continuing in the march of literary and intellectual achievements inside and outside the Sultanate. — ONA
