MUSCAT: The Training Centre of the Council of Oman on Tuesday conducted the third module of its three-day long seminar for the members of the two Councils, titled “The Strategic Plan of the Parliament”. Present at the seminar were Dr Suad bint Mohamed al Lawati, Vice-Chairperson of the State Council, members from the State Council and Majlis Ash’shura and Dr Khalid bin Salim al Saeedi, Secretary-General of the State Council. Prof Ali Sayed Ahmed El Sawi, Professor of Political Science at Cairo University, and the Parliamentary Development Consultant in the United Nations, delivered the presentation.

The seminar displayed the experiences and models presently adopted by some Arab and international parliaments. The workshop assessed the current situation and the needs of the parliament and committees through the development of strategies and plans that include vision, mission, values, objectives and activities, in addition to the work plan and follow-up (performance indicators). The seminar also reviewed the feasibility of the Parliament’s Strategic Plan, which will help improve the image of the Council in public opinion and enhance the institutionalisation of the Council. This will be considered as a reference for cooperation and allow conduct of performance appraisal objectively with transparency.

The workshop also discussed the strategic plan of the parliament to discuss the mechanism of formulating the objectives of the strategic plan, which is as follows: setting the priority objectives, setting alternatives or solutions for each goal, comparing these alternatives, including the alternative or optimal solution, and the objectives and the strategy of achieving and the formulation of goals in a smart way.
