Conference on Oman Maritime Heritage at SQU

Muscat: Sultan Qaboos University represented by the Omani Studies Centre will organise the “International Conference ‘Oman Maritime Heritage” during the period from October 23 to 25. The conference will highlight the economic, political social, and cultural value of this great maritime heritage. It also aims at raising public awareness of the importance of maritime heritage and its role in enhancing national identity. The conference seeks to study the Omani maritime heritage, highlight its cultural, social peculiarity, shed light on the challenges facing it and highlighting the tangible and non-tangible Omani maritime heritage.


The conference will also cast light on the sea culture and traditions and the other associated aspects, such as ship building, maritime art, navigation tools, astronomy, traditions and fishing. It will also study the effects of modern societies on preserving the Omani maritime heritage culture and will review the national and local efforts made to revive the maritime heritage and forecast its future. More than 400 researchers from the Sultanate, Algeria, China, Portugal, Egypt, Iraq, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia will take part in the conference and will present papers on Omani maritime heritage. — ONA
