Conference to explore advancements in marine biotechnology

MUSCAT: The first in a series of events that will play a vital role in the intersection between science and business in the area of marine biotechnology, the Frontiers in Marine Biotechnology Conference, hosted by the Oman Centre for Marine Biotechnology (OCMB) in partnership with Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), will be held at the Grand Hyatt, Muscat, on February 5. “85 per cent of Oman’s revenue is dependent on the oil and gas sector, a climate of open innovation will not only lead to a more resilient economy but support the country’s diversification strategy by tapping the applications of marine biotechnology in potential fields such as medicine, fisheries, environment, food, cosmetics and energy,” says Prof Dr Bassam Soussi, Chief Executive Officer, OCMB.


Focusing on the developments and advancements being made in the field of Marine Biotechnology and capitalising on the opportunities presented in terms of social and economic benefits for the region, the conference will present an overview of the Marine Biotechnology sector today in terms of emerging opportunities, challenges and future perspectives. Alongside, there will be themed sessions on marine biotechnology research and developments, marine biomass as a sustainable feedstock and the Role of Marine Bioprospecting.
