Muscat, July 9 -

A competition titled ‘Wiyakum 2017’ has been launched in the Sultanate to raise youth awareness on the importance of voluntary work.

The competition was launched by the Nama Group in collaboration with the National Youth Commission. It will run until October, when winners will be announced.

The competition is an opportunity to create a sense of challenge among youth who can take up significant voluntary projects and initiatives. The competition is for voluntary teams, non-profit charities and sports clubs.

‘Wiyakum’ comprises competitions in different fields, including the social field in which projects target society, education, safety and health.

It will also have economic projects that provide an opportunity for SMEs and projects that will assist the unemployed. Environmental projects are also available such as recycling and reducing power consumption.

Each category of competition will carry three cash awards starting from RO 3,000. Separate awards will be announced for the best media coverage via social media. Each award, given away every month, carries a cash prize of RO 100.
