Muscat: The Court of First Instance recently issued verdicts against two commercial enterprises in separate cases for alleged violation of the Consumer Protection Act and its executive regulations. The verdict included imprisonments and fines.

As per the details, a consumer filed a complaint with the Public Authority Consumer Protection (PACP) that a beauty salon in Bahla did not provide service properly and refused to return money. Taking the necessary action, the case was referred to the Department of Public Prosecution who initiated the investigation and referred it to the Court of First Instance who passed the judgement.

The salon, suspended for 10 days and fined RO100, will also have to bear the legal expenses.

In the second case, a consumer had signed an agreement with a manpower office in Bahla for the recruitment of a domestic worker. Following medical examinations, it was revealed that the worker suffered from health problems. The consumer then sought for a replacement for the worker.

As the maid returned to her home country, the complainant demanded that the office recover the payments.

Following investigations, The Public Prosecution referred the case to the Court of First Instance who passed the judgement, which said the accused was guilty of violation of the Consumer Protection Act and imposed a fine of RO100. He was asked to pay for the legal expenses and return RO650 to the consumer.
