By Lakshmi Kothaneth — MUSCAT: Jan. 23 - Saleh al Sheedi stumbled upon a pot of treasure on his land in Saham, the pictures of which have gone viral. Al Sheedi was razing his ancestral house to build a new one in its place when the earthmover he was using hit a jar containing silver and copper coins from a bygone era. The coins had the khanjar emblem inscribed on them. The jar contained silver theresa coins and French coins dating back to 1780 and 1600. The pot broke during the demolition, but Al Sheedi did not miss the sound of the metal. “At that moment, I wasn’t sure what it was.” “I think they are very special,” he said, adding: “I would like to keep them.” “I was born here, but I have no idea who buried these coins,” said Al Sheedi.
