The Capital Market Authority has cautioned local investors against dealing with unlicensed firms claiming to specialise in foreign-exchange, securities and other investments.
“CMA has been alerted by the International Organisations of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) that it received warnings from its members about firms which are not authorised to provide investment services. For sound transactions in Oman and to provide for a safe investment environment we have issued this advisory,” the Authority said in a press statement.
Some of the alerts or warnings are about unauthorised firms using names similar to those of authorised firms or about unauthorised firms falsely claiming to be associated with authorised firms.
