Charity begins, but never ends at home...

From owning fancy cars and expensive clothes to having fine dining and happy vacations, there are lots

of ways we can spend our hard-earned money.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with rewarding ourselves, but what would happen if we reward someone else instead? We could share the joy of rewarding others; the people in need perhaps! Always making a living comes by what we get, but we make a life by what we give to others.

Charity as a religious and social obligation; how much we do for it? Nothing or not even enough to serve those people who are less privileged.

Those who deserve our contribution of giving back to the community though they never

ask for it.

It’s true that charity begins at home, but it should never end there.

Many people all over the world are in urgent need of our charitable giving including those who are closer to our reach in this country.

Our deeds of giving should extend beyond just family, relatives and loved ones.

We are social creatures by nature; our human purposes could be fulfilled by engaging with the society, the neighbourhood, charities and even the ones we work or live with.

We should be all for one and one for all.

In fact, the charitable activities we do return for our own good as they benefit our psychological, spiritual and emotional well-being.

Helping others by sacrificing time or donating money always creates an improved sense of purpose in life or work and inner satisfaction.

If a person performs a deed that continues to benefit others in a good way, he/she will keep collecting rewards for this charitable act as long as it benefits the recipients.

The Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him) said: “When a person dies his works end, except for three: ongoing charity, knowledge that is benefited from and a righteous child who prays for him.”

Nowadays, we observe many local charitable associations almost in every corner of the country.

It happens as even more than one charity within the same town or village.

Most of these charities are established and managed by young Omani male and female volunteers who are devoted to serve the local community and meet the urgent needs and necessities of families in need in different aspects of life.

We all agree what Mahatma Gandhi saying: “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others”.

A really great example of a successful charitable event was the recently held Al Khair Wafi charity exhibition.

The event was organised by a group of businesswomen in collaboration with Al Rahma Association for Motherhood and Child Welfare.

The revenues from the full-day exhibition were dedicated to support the orphans’ project managed by the association. Around RO 66,000 were collected from the event; collectively donated by the sponsors and outcomes from the shopping during the event.

Such a big amount of money was only collected in a one-day event.

Just imagine how much would it be if it was more than a day?! It was just a simple idea proposed and worked out by a group of ladies.

With the support of sponsors and individuals, see how much the return of investment was! The same idea could be implemented by other charities to support one of their charitable projects or initiatives.

Another idea; as all charities serve a noble cause, forces should be joint, so all associations could achieve their missions and objectives.

Charity always intended to serve bringing justice, balance and kindness to the society.

Perhaps, they could work together to raise fund for a collective initiative. We should all remember that what we do for ourselves dies with you, but what we do for others and the world remains and is everlasting.
