By Fahad Al Ghadani — MUSCAT: April 18 - Patients at the Khoula Hospital can change or enquire about their appointments on WhatsApp, the Ministry of Health has announced on its official Twitter account. The ministry has allotted a special number to enable patients to contact the hospital. The announcement was highly appreciated by public on the social media. Many felt the move would ease the medical appointments process. “I really appreciate the move. It will make my life easier,” said Issa al Zidi, a Yanqul resident who travels between Muscat and his place for his father’s treatment in Muscat. He hopes such a procedure is adopted by all the government hospitals.

At the beginning of this year, the ministry began the implementation of e-payment services (credit/debit cards) for the clients of MoH’s health establishments. E-payment devices were installed at the ministry’s health institutions in different governorates. E-link was established recently by the ministry in cooperation with the Royal Oman Police (ROP) to streamline procedures for issuing birth certificates. With the linking of the systems of both organisations, parents can now directly approach the Directorate General of Civil Status with a request for birth certificates. The e-linkage simplifies the birth certification process.  Earlier, it was necessary for parents to obtain a letter from the hospital where the child was born, and submit it to the Directorate General of Civil Status. With this new linkage, one of the parents will receive an SMS on the registered phone number specifying a date for collecting the birth certificate.
