Muscat: Shaikh Abdullah bin Shuwain al Hosni, Chairman of Oman Human Rights Commission met with Indra Mani Pandey, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate to discuss the issue of the Omani citizens detained for accusations of violating the marriage law in India.

The chairman of Oman Human Rights Commission requested the ambassador for intervention to expedite adjudication of the case. The ambassador promised to do everything possible in accordance with the law of India.

Al Hosni thanked the ambassador for his welcome to cooperate in solving the issue. The move comes within the framework commission’s constant efforts to follow up the case of citizen Rashid bin Masood al Madsari whose case was deferred several times since 2014. This is in addition to the case of eight other Omani citizens who were arrested on charges of attempted child marriage in violation of the Indian laws.

It should be noted that the Oman Human Rights Commission is in touch with the Sultanate’s embassy in India and the consulate in Mumbai as well as the citizens involved in those cases to redress the issue.
