By Kaushalendra Singh — SALALAH: Jan 24 - Budding writers were exhorted to come out of their shells during a recently concluded session on how to make effective writing and compiling thoughts to emerge as successful writers. The session was held at Darr al Kitab Library amid august gathering of writers and those who have interest in literary activities. The concept of organising the event was given by famous Arabic writer Nasr Sami and Eshraq Abdullah Faras Alnahdi. Eminent writer Dr Ahmed Ali al Mashani encouraged young artists to come out of their shell, gather and discuss ideas with fellow artists and do away with obstacles, which is present mainly in the form of personal hesitation.

“To achieve something you need to come out of this hesitation and let the world know your thoughts and ideas. Only then you will realise your goals and get due recognition,” he said.

Dr Ahmed gave a thought provoking lecture on ‘Practicing the creative status of mind’ and responded to questions put up by the young writers.

The event was second in the series of ‘Read my story’ as the library authorities requested the writers to keep on visiting the place and do any literary activity of their choice.

“It may be in the form of workshop, seminar or even a simple gathering of writers to share ideas and thoughts with fellow writers,” said Mustafa Abdul Qadir al Ghassani of Darr al Kitab Library.

The library, according to him, has set up a biennial award to promote Arabic literature and honour those who are instrumental in promoting the language through their write ups, promotion and developing scientific research in the Arabic language.

Eshraq Abdullah Faras Alnahdi read one story from her upcoming second book ‘Rosecea’. Her first book ‘Ahmer’ has been well received and got appreciation from many quarters.

Commenting on the goal of this new trend of ‘Read my story’ in Salalah, Eshraq said: “The goal is to create awareness among the people, particularly the writers, about the rich culture of Dhofar. Through our stories we not only raise fine issues that our culture stores, but also we try to preserve our culture in our own limited way of writing about them and documenting them in a different style.”

Such gatherings are also aimed at promoting young writers “to impress upon them to read and write. It is very important for any writer to read as much as possible to emerge as a good writer.”

Such gatherings give an insight to the writers how to choose subjects and how to express them. Everyone in the session was surprised to know that among the audience there were many budding writers and one of them was coming out of her own story book very soon.

Thamna Hobais surprised the gathering with her announcement about her soon to be launched book and read one story from that. The upcoming book, according to Eshraq, is very valuable as it contains many valuable facts about Oman.

The audience also appreciated stories of Bushra Mubarak, Saia al Darodi, Alchadli Abdulsamad, Amina al Moalam, Aisha al Serahia, and Khair al Shahri.
