MUSCAT: The office of His Majesty the Sultan’s Adviser for Cultural Affairs will organise today, Thursday, a ceremony to mark the launching of a book titled Oman Reborn Balancing Tradition and Modernisation. The launching ceremony of the book in English and Arabic languages, by Prof Linda Pappas Funsch, will be held under the auspices of Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidy, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court.

The ceremony, which will be held at Oasis Club in Al Athaiba includes a documentary on the book, the author speech and signing the book.

The book, which falls in seven chapters, covers a number of key events and developments witnessed by the Sultanate. It also presents the prevailing conditions in the Sultanate before 1970 and holds a comparison between them and the achievements made by the Sultanate during the blessed Renaissance under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. The book discusses Oman as model for modernity, especially in comparison to its neighbours.

It also underscores the Sultanate’s ability to strike a balance between authenticity and modernity. The book also highlights a number of economic, social, cultural and political issues. It should be noted that Prof Linda is specialised in the Middle East modern studies and Islamic history.

Her first visit to the Sultanate was in 1974, when she was a member of an international group which considered the priorities and critical needs of the Sultanate in the field of maternity, childhood, education and nutrition for rural families. — ONA
