Muscat – Forty-three (43) women of various Asian nationalities were arrested on charges of prostitution and violating the Residency Law. The police raided three locations in Al Khuwair and arrested 10 women while indulging in the act along with 33 others on Wednesday.

ROP has imposed restrictions on the entry of women tourists from certain countries following these repeated cases of tourists indulging in human and narcotics trafficking,

Women tourists from those nationalities will have to furnish return air tickets and hotel bookings (minimum four-star). Women on tourist visas cannot exceed their stay beyond ten days (visa will be non-extendable) and won’t be allowed with bookings for service apartments or guest houses. There should be a gap of at least one month from the date of their previous exit from Oman.

Women entering tourist visa will be not allowed to re-enter Oman with one month after their exit. If arrested for a wrongdoing, including human trafficking, these women will be put in the prohibited list.

Oman Penal Code stipulates imprisonment ranging from three months to three years and fines in the range of R20 to RO100 for those who depends on prostitution for livelihood or indulge in prostitution under influence of someone.
