By Lakshmi Kothaneth — MUSCAT: March 14 - If there has been a sense of something special in the air it is the arrival of the spring. As everyone prepares to wrap up with winter, there are still chances for rain. The gardens have been looking brighter than ever before with flowers and the butterflies have begun to arrive. Not just a coincidence, says the weather forecaster at the Oman Met Office, Public Authority for Civil Aviation, “the official date for spring is March 21st and that indicates the end of winter for the year.

“Maybe it is hard for us to distinguish it here with our kind of weather. It might not be that obvious, but spring is around the corner.”

The days are going to alter between warm and cool days. “It depends on the wind direction and from where we are getting the air. If it is from the north it is cold and if it is from the south it is warm,” explained the weather expert.

However, the rain is around the corner again. According to the weather predictions, rains are expected in Musandam and Al Hajar Mountains.

Moderate rain is expected along the western coast of the Musandam with maximum wave heights of 2.0 metres and light rains along the rest of the coast with maximum wave heights of 1.25 metres.

Today the weather is expected to be clear to partly cloudy skies over northern governorates with a chance of isolated light rain over Musandam, Al Buraimi governorates and over parts of Al Hajar Mountains and coastal areas. Mainly clear skies over rest of the Sultanate with chances of late night to early morning low level clouds over South Al Sharqiyah and coastal areas.
