Muscat - The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) opened the new stretch of Batinah Expressway Project for the traffic on Sunday. The 45km road starts from the Barka-Nakhal interchange and ends at Al-Hazem. With this, 81km of the total 272km-expressway project has been completed.

This stretch will offer an alternative to the current Batinah dual carriageway road, especially for traffic coming from Rustaq and the one originating from the Ibri- Rustaq road, making the trip to Muscat fast and smooth. This road will serve a number of villages and tourism sites of Abyadh, Aqdah, Jamaa and Khubat al Qudan sand dunes.

The ministry has completed the package one of the Expressway project, which starts from the End of Muscat Expressway (Halban intersection) until Khubat al Qadaan (45km). The package includes five interchanges, five flyovers, two wadi bridges, one underpass, one camel pass and 235 box culverts.

Work is progress on the rest of the 272km-Expressway project as per the schedule, which starts from the end of Muscat Expressway (Halban interchange) and continues till Khutmat al Malahah in Shinas.

The Batinah Expressway project has been divided into six packages that includes four lanes on each side that are 3,75m wide, a 3.5m wide middle traffic island, 3m external shoulders, 2m internal shoulders, 31 wadi crossing bridges, 23 interchanges as well locations for police traffic patrol parking and ambulance.
