MUSCAT: Bashaer played out a goalless draw, albeit academic, to take home the Oman Second Division football title. Bashaer’s nearest rivals, Majees and Al Wusta, were at 12 points at the start of the round to their 19. This meant that the champion’s berth was assured for the Dakhaliya based side. As the champions were going to be crowned inevitably, all the stakes to play for were in the match between Majees and Al Wusta. Al Wusta, a relatively new club to the Omani football landscape, have done quite well this season and it would be quite the achievement for them to get promoted to the first division so soon.

Unfortunately, Majees made them wait to see if that acehivement would come this season. The Batinah based side beat Al Wusta 3-1 to seal their promotion to the first division while the fledgling side will have to navigate a playoff with Al Ittihad with a first division place at stake. Bashaer’s players were delighted in their victory and it was made even better when they had the opportunity to get awarded their winner’s medals from OFA Chairman Shaikh Salim al Wahaibi, who was present at the proceedings. While Al Wusta’s fate is yet to be decided, fans can expect to see Bashaer and Majees in action in the first division from the following season.
