Bahla horse festival ends

BAHLA: The third edition of the traditional horse festival concluded at the racecourse of Al Mamour township under the auspices of Shaikh Saud bin Sulaiman bin Himyar al Nabhani, State Adviser in the presence of members of Majlis Ash’shura, members of the Municipal Council, shaikhs, dignitaries and citizens.

Organized by Bahla Club represented by Al Mamour team in cooperation with the Oman Lights photography team, the festival saw participation of 70 jockeys and 100 photographers. It included several heritage and artistic events related to equestrian sports as well as various horse shows.

Mohammed bin Abdullah al Shueili delivered a speech on behalf of the organizing committee during which he said that the Al Mamour team was established in 1980 and since then it has been very active in creating a strong network of individuals connecting all society segments in a single family whose task is to carry out unique activities and programmes through a permanent partnership and constructive work aimed at serving the town by implementing vital projects and improving the public utilities by utilizing the youths’ energy and the financial capabilities available the town.


The horse festival is aimed at reviving the heritage and history of horse games and encouraging young people to engage in equestrian activities, Al Shueili said.


The Al Shamikhat Horse race was held as part of Traditional Horse Festival. The jokey Saif bin Jabir al Busaidy from the Wilayat of Al Suwaiq riding on horse Sabaa came in the first place.
