Bacteria found in bottled drinking water

Musat: The inspectors from the department of Consumer Protection in Dhahirah Governorate recently seized drinking water bottles that violated specifications and standards.



As statement from the Public Authority for Customer Protection (PACP) also confirmed the presence of




impurities and unpleasant odors in these containers.



The department had received a complaint about the presence of foul odor and impurities in one of the water bottles .



The department officials went to the company's headquarters and collected random samples to be tested in a laboratory to verify the validity and safety of the water bottles.


The results showed the presence of bacteria and some algae, which indicates that the product is not suitable for human consumption, thus endangering the health and safety of the consumer.



An administrative fine of RO 600 was issued for selling a product that did not meet the health and safety conditions as stipulated in the laws and regulations, in accordance with Article 21 of the Executive Regulations of the Consumer Protection Law.



The supplier is prohibited to trade any goods or to provide any service before fulfilling all the health and safety requirements stipulated in the relevant laws, regulations and decisions, depending on the nature of each commodity or service, and obtaining licenses or approvals from the concerned parties.


The Public Authority for Consumer Protection calls upon all merchants and suppliers to abide by the provisions of the Consumer Protection Law.
