NIZWA, Jan 21 - A two-day awareness campaign on the health of the elderly was organised by Omani Association for Elderly Friends, represented by the members of Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. Themed, ‘Caring for them is our duty’, the campaign, held at Nizwa Grand Mall, was aimed at raising awareness on how to cope with the health problems the elderly people are exposed to. It was held under the auspices of Sheikh Ahmed bin Said al Hadhrami, a member of the Shura Council representing Nizwa. Ahmed al Shaibani explained the objectives of the exhibition, which was followed by a visual presentation on the life of the elderly. The forum was aimed at educating the community about the health problems facing the elderly and how to care for them.

An accompanying expo saw stalls, including those offering programmes for the care of the elderly, including home care, feeding the elderly and helping boost memory of the elderly. The elderly could also have their blood sugar levels and blood pressure checked. The exhibition saw a handicrafts workshop by the elderly, painting and colouring for children, and some entertainment programmes. The association signed a partnership agreement with Modern Port Trading and Super Quality Hearing Aid & Speech Therapy Center for providing tools and equipment for the elderly. At the end, the participating and supporting institutions and committees were honoured.
