Muscat: The Supreme Committee tasked with tackling developments resulting from Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic met on Monday under the chairmanship of Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al Busaidi, Minister of Interior.

The meeting, held at the National Centre for Emergency Management, got updates about the pandemic and followed measures of curbing its spread and alleviating its impacts.

On the occasion of Eid al Adha, the Supreme Committee greeted His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik and the Arab and Islamic nations on the occasion. The Committee expressed its wishes of good health and wellbeing to Majesty the Sultan. It wished that the Sultanate would enjoy further bounties and progress under his wise leadership.

The Committee followed up the enforcement of total lockdown between governorates, the ban on movement from 7 pm to 6 am and the closure of public places and business outlets with effect from last Saturday.

The committee commended the compliance of members of the public—citizens and residents alike—with measures of prevention of infection with Coronavirus. It cautioned against the negative complications of Covid-19 and called for more adherence to help enhance the health sector's response to the disease and other diseases.

In particular, the Supreme Committee exhorts all individuals to exercise extreme caution during Eid al Adha holidays. It reiterated its plea to limit movement during the daytime and to avoid family unions and other social gatherings, irrespective of their nature. It reminded all that assembling and crowding provide ideal grounds for the transfer of Covid-19 infection.

The Committee also called for firm handling of offenders acting in violation of its decisions. --ONA
