Aviation regulators meet begins

Muscat: Fourth Meeting of Heads and Directors-General of Civil Aviation in the Middle East started on Wednesday in Muscat.
The 3-day meeting is organised by the Public Authority of Civil Aviation (PACA) in cooperation with the ICAO Regional Office for the Middle East.
Representatives of the civil aviation authorities of 16 Middle Eastern countries and a number of regional and international organisations working in the civil aviation sector are participating in the meeting.
The meeting discusses the regulatory and technical aspects related to the safety and security of civil aviation, the formation of a security and aviation facilitation team in the Middle East and cooperation in aviation security and strategies to enhance cooperation in air navigation among the countries of the region, the rights of passengers, environmental issues and liberalisation of the airspace between the countries of the Middle East and the latest developments in fair competition between airlines.
The meeting was inaugurated by Sultan bin Salim al Habsi, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Central Bank of Oman.
Dr Mohammed bin Nasser al Zaabi, CEO of PACA, said that the government has
given the civil aviation sector great importance, and this interest was reflected in the great achievements witnessed by the Sultanate under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos.
He added that the government has invested in aviation infrastructure through the development and establishment of international and regional airports with the best international standards to cope with the continuous global developments in the civil aviation sector, adding that the Sultanate has now become one of the largest air navigation centres in the region to serve the air traffic with the latest international technologies, in addition to an advanced centre for weather forecasting and multi-hazard early warning and other buildings and facilities serving the sector.
The meeting was attended by Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Public Authority of Civil Aviation, a number of under-secretaries, representatives of civil aviation authorities from the Middle East and representatives of regional and international bodies and organisations working in the civil aviation sector. — ONA
